On Monday, Republican Representative Steve King saw his chronic political career reach its denouement. Following a distasteful comment made in an interview with The New York Times last Thursday, House Republicans stripped King of all of his committee assignments, striking the final nail in a political career plagued with references to white supremacists on multiple occasions.
King’s statement, in question: “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?”
The GOP responded appropriately to King’s remark. By taking swift, concise action, the party of the elephant demonstrated that they do take matters of bigotry and unfairness seriously — issues that their counterparts do not.
The so-called “Democratic darlings” are pure showings of this increasingly prevalent trend within the Left. If you’ve paid just one iota of attention toward politics in the past month or so, chances are you’ve heard of at least one of these lovely ladies who are peddled and praised by the media on a habitual basis: Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar, and of course, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
What do they all have in common? Besides being political rookies who have a tendency to make brash, unfounded statements, they all have a more striking and disturbing similarity: an openness to support and befriend anti-Semitic thought.
Let’s start with Rashida Tlaib, a Palestinian-American representative from Detroit, Michigan. Popularly known as the brazen congresswoman who described President Trump using harsh vulgarities, Tlaib has shown multiple signs of support toward anti-Semitic leaders, one of which occurred at her swearing-in ceremony. During her event, she was pictured with Abbas Hamideh, a proud sympathizer of the terrorist group Hezbollah and the founder of the anti-Israel group Al-Awda. Among many utterly disgusting statements, Hamideh has called a terrorist who murdered four Israelis “a legendary Hezbollah martyr.” Regarding Israel, he has stated on Twitter that Israel “doesn’t have a right to exist.”
Keep in mind that Rashida Tlaib, herself, invited Hamideh to her private swearing-in ceremony.
In addition to Tlaib being friendly with an anti-Semitic terrorist supporter, she is also pictured smiling next to Linda Sarsour, an anti-Semitic activist who has self-described ties to the Muslim Brotherhood — an organization the Trump administration has considered labeling as a terrorist organization —, has advocated for female genital mutilation, is tied to Louis Farrakhan — a devout anti-Semite —, and has advocated for the use of jihad against President Trump.
Sarsour is so anti-Semitic and radical, in fact, that the Women’s March Group — the organization that Sarsour, among others, spearheaded — announced in December that they are disbanding due to shockingly high levels of anti-Semitism within the organization’s leadership.
Evidently, Tlaib is not an isolated incident. Ilhan Omar — another newly elected “fresh-faced” Democrat — has made direct anti-Semitic remarks. In 2012, Omar loftily remarked on Twitter that “Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel.” And like Tlaib, she also met with Linda Sarsour — on the first day of Congress.
Finally, we get to Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, who was labeled by Tom Perez, Chair of the Democratic National Committee, as the “future” of the Democratic Party. Cortez has directly supported Linda Sarsour, championing her as a woman who puts it “all on the line for healthcare, women & LGBT+ rights.” Again, Sarsour is an anti-Semite who has advocated for genital mutilation on a female.
Several months after brazenly endorsing Sarsour, Cortez revealed in a speech at a Hannakuh event that she has Jewish ancestry. The reveal drew applause from the crowd, unknowing that she had supported an anti-Semite just months prior.
I don’t like using the double-standard argument due to it being so frequently used, but can you just imagine if a Republican had these many direct ties to anti-Semitism? The Left, aided with the mainstream media, would go bananas, calling for the Republican’s immediate resignation.
For reference, the EPA’s Acting Administrator, Andrew Wheeler, was labeled as a racist in October due to him reportedly liking an offensive meme 6 years ago. If Wheeler is racist for clicking the “like” button on a picture in 2013, what are Tlaib, Omar, and Cortez for openly supporting and embracing anti-Semitic figures in 2018-19?
Instead of focusing on their direct and clear ties to brash bigotry, the Democratic Party and the media label the aforementioned congresswomen as progressive, tolerant, and accepting individuals. Instead of stripping their duties and forcing them to apologize, the Left champions them, calling them the future of our country.
